Public transport

All Adelaide Metro trains and trams are accessible, and over 80 per cent of bus fleet is accessible.  To find out if an accessible bus is rostered for the route and time you want to make your journey phone Adelaide Metro on 1300 311 108.  For further general information please refer to Adelaide Metro’s Accessible Journeys.

It is important to be aware of regularity of public transport services in your area especially at night and in weekends and plan accordingly.

Free services

There are two free City Connector bus services which run in the inner city and north Adelaide; Route 98A and 98C link the city and North Adelaide every 30 minutes, seven days a week, whilst the 99A and 99C link the main city destinations every 30 minutes on weekdays. Connector buses are fully accessible.

The Free City tram takes you between the South Terrace tram stop and the Entertainment Centre (via North Terrace and City West Campus).

Accessible parking on campus

The University provides a number of designated accessible on-campus parking spaces for people with a disability who hold an Australian Disability Parking Permit. A UniSA permit, which is free, is also required to park in these spaces. Both the University Parking Permit and the Australian Disability Parking Permit must be clearly displayed at all times when parking on University grounds. In order to obtain a University permit, complete the Application for Parking Permit and produce proof of your Australian Disability Parking Permit to the Security office on your home campus.

There is also designated accessible car parking near most campuses on a fee-for-service basis.

Taxi service

Access Taxi caters for passengers with mobility difficulties or disabilities, particularly those with wheelchairs and scooters. Over 100 wheelchair-accessible taxis operate in the Adelaide metropolitan area. This fleet includes taxis that can carry single wheelchairs and vans that can fit two or three wheelchairs and their passengers.

Concessions

Subsidised taxi fares are available through the South Australian Transport Subsidy Scheme (SATSS) for people with permanent and severe disabilities. Currently the rate is a 50% subsidy for those who can walk and 75% for individuals who are confined to wheelchair. Mobility Allowance can assist if individuals who have a disability, illness or injury to participate in approved activities. The allowance helps with transport costs if you cannot use public transport without substantial assistance, either permanently or for an extended period.
