Safe & Inclusive Care for Forgotten Australians and Other Trauma Survivors

Presentation by Megan Schwarz, Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy

This presentation by Megan Schwarz, is an introduction to the barriers to care that face Forgotten Australians. Forgotten Australians represent the 500,000 children who spent their childhoods in orphanages and other out-of-home ‘care’ as children. As a result of childhood abuses whilst in ‘care’, many Forgotten Australians, now ageing, have significant barriers to accessing support services, particularly aged care. This presentation will help participants understand the impact of complex trauma and achieve safe and inclusive aged care for older people from trauma backgrounds. It will also introduce participants to a range of companion resources developed through the Real Care the Second Time Around Project.
