Documentary Film Society (DFS) aims to expand the opportunities for rare, experimental and contemporary nonfiction films in Australia to screen in public and accessible settings. This includes opportunities for local and international filmmakers as well as audiences.

The aims of this research are to explore cultures around micro-cinemas, pop-up screenings, and film clubs. A further aim is to contribute to local screen culture through the development of audiences around nonfiction film as well as strengthening the role of documentary film in citizenship through its poetic and political possibilities.

In 2024, DFS is collaborating with Samstag Museum of Art with a screening program for each of their three major exhibitions. This program is accompanied by a series of short essays and floor talks.

2024 Events

  • Monthly screenings at The Mercury Cinema (3rd Thursday of the month) - details are posted on the CP3 LinkedIn page or the DFS socials
  • Art and Film program with Samstag Museum of Art - details here
