Families involved with child protection during the perinatal period

The research undertaken as part of this ACCP project, funded by an ARC Discovery grant, has examined the nature, extent and impact of the removal of infants (<1 year old) and newborns from their mothers.

New Minimum Practice Standards: Specialist and Community Support Services Responding to Child Sexual Abuse

The ACCP on behalf of the National Office for Child Safety have developed a new Minimum Practice Standards for Specialist and Community Support Services responding to Child Sexual Abuse.

The Early Intervention Research Directorate

In partnership with the SA Government, the ACCP developed a ground-breaking new public health approach towards addressing child abuse, through the Early Intervention Research Directorate (EIRD), which recognised child abuse and neglect as a health pandemic.

Young Carers

The ACCP is interested in understanding the experiences of young people who have experienced challenges within their childhoods and to inform service systems (including child protection, family welfare and community services) to ensure that their needs are met.

The internationally renowned team at the ACCP often leads ground-breaking research into the issues that are most prominently affecting children, young people and their families.

I-CaRe: Predicting and preventing child removals and optimising the child protection system for Aboriginal children in WA

The ACCP is harnessing the views and perspectives from the Aboriginal community and Aboriginal primary care providers to ensure that Aboriginal children in out-of-home care remain connected to their family and culture.

The Young People’s Aspirations and Expectation of Relationships and Parenting Study (the Aspirations Study) is DHS funded project that is helping to shape policy and practice, while also challenging assumptions about young parents.

DCP Enhancing Practice PhD Scholarship

To address the ongoing overrepresentation of Aboriginal children in the child protection system, an ACCP PhD project aims to consolidate an understanding of the Australian legal system, child protection laws and policies, and how these govern the relationships between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people.
