Saturday Sessions will take you on a captivating journey across the Universe. Join one of our highly experienced astronomers as they guide you through constellations, the solar system and beyond. Marvel at the immense scale of the universe and observe the breathtaking beauty of the night skies projected on the eight-metre domed ceiling.

** We are re-opening for sessions from Saturday 1st August, with enhanced safety and social distancing measures in place.

To ensure the safety of staff and patrons, and to abide by State Government regulations, up to 26 people will be permitted inside the Planetarium at any one time.

Astronomy is one of the oldest sciences. Earth’s earliest inhabitants knew the Sun gave them light and heat and they learned to measure time by the position of the Sun and the shape of the Moon.

Important Notes

  • Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the session commencing to be seated comfortably and to avoid disappointment as entry into the Planetarium is NOT permitted once the session has started for safety reasons.
  • All children must be accompanied by a paying adult.
  • Companion card holders, please email the Planetarium once you have booked, so a seat can be put aside for you.
  • No food or drink to be consumed in the Planetarium.
  • Prams are not permitted inside the Planetarium.
  • All sessions require a minimum number of bookings to go ahead.
  • Please note the Planetarium is not suitable for children under 4 years old. If you do bring younger children, we request that those who become restless and noisy please exit the Planetarium with their guardian as a courtesy to other patrons.

Covid-19 Requirements

  • Our COVID safe plan requires us to have no more than 26 people per session.
  • Guests must provide contact details at the time of booking as per Government COVID-19 regulations for contact tracing, if required.
  • Due to COVID-19 retrictions, ALL patrons who enter the Planetarium must be accounted for and therefore required to purchase a ticket.  This INCLUDES children under the age of 4 and babies (we have a foyer area for patrons who will be caring for younger siblings).

    On the first and third Saturday of every month, the Planetarium presents a 30-minute Night Sky experience, followed by a 20-minute full dome animated children’s movie, Tycho to the Moon. This session is tailored to a younger audience.

    The Planetarium presents a 30-minute Night Sky experience, followed by a 23-minute full dome movie, Cosmic Collisions.

    Cosmic Collisions presents the spectacular result of gravity pulling together planets, stars, and galaxies. Witness explosive encounters that ended the Age of the Dinosaurs and gave birth to new stars, but also created conditions essential for life on Earth - the Sun's warmth and ocean waves.
