About the project

Improve carbon emission reporting outcomes

If you are interested in growing a career in sustainability accounting and keen to address contemporary issues around carbon emissions, the University of South Australia – Australia’s University of Enterprise – is offering a hands-on project-based PhD within the Centre for Markets, Values and Inclusion (CMVI).

In response to the recent legislative change on climate reporting, our project will explore how value chain companies measure and report direct and indirect carbon emissions.

The mandatory Sustainability Reporting Standards require eligible reporting entities to disclose climate-related information in phases from 2025. This will have a significant impact on value chain accounting and reporting practice in Australia.

Our project investigates how companies prepare for the change and what accounting and reporting mechanisms need to be developed to enable value chain companies to better understand and become accountable for their carbon footprints over the value chain.

What you’ll do

In this project-based research degree, you will benefit from the mentorship and leadership provided by the worldclass researchers at CMVI. The Centre actively engages with industry, government, and the community. This vibrant research environment provides you with the opportunity to gain valuable experiences and connections that will hold you in good stead in the job market.

Where you’ll be based

You will be based within the CMVI. We combine specialist skills and multidisciplinary perspectives to provide a transdisciplinary approach to delivering meaningful research, which informs innovative, evidence-based solutions for a more inclusive and sustainable future.

Our research informs public and private sector choices and policies and addresses global development and governance issues in populations experiencing inequity. We also develop incentives for business and not-for-profits to develop, monitor and report on socially responsible enterprises.
