Gestures of Care invites audiences to engage with powerful stories and experiences of families who’ve been through tough times and come out the other side. These families share their experiences in Family by Family, an innovative peer to peer support program that transforms lives. This mixed-media exhibition showcases work that is personal and insightful and draws on the lived experiences of families, including children, who support each other through practices of radical care. The works celebrate the importance of social connection and agency, and how everyday gestures of care strengthen people, families and communities.
This exhibition was developed from research conducted as part of the Australian Research Council Linkage project entitled: Situating Care. The research involved University of Adelaide and Monash University, and was developed in partnership with Uniting Communities (who deliver the program) and The Australian Centre for Social Innovation (who co-designed the program with families in 2010). These inspiring works were created in collaboration with Miranda Harris from The Art Bus, ceramic artist Mark Valenzuela and Claire Harris.
Gestures of Care is presented by The Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre, University of South Australia,
The University of Adelaide and the Art Bus
Supported by Uniting Communities, Government of South Australia, Family By Family, TACSI - The Australian Centre for Social Innovation, Monash University and Australian Government - Australian Research Council
