ARTISTS ON THE INSIDE

2 aUGUST 2023 -
30 AUGUST 2023

Artists On The Inside presents artwork created by adults incarcerated in prisons across South Australia. The exhibition provides a forum for people in custody to participate in the community as artists and to share their stories and creativity.

Through the medium of visual art, people who are incarcerated can experience an enhanced connection to themselves, their culture, and their community. It is also a chance for visitors to challenge their assumptions about people who are incarcerated and what can be achieved within a prison environment.

Visitors are invited to engage in a dialogue with people in prison by voting for their favourite artwork as part of the People’s Choice award and leaving a comment that can be shared with the artist.

Artists On The Inside is presented by The Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre and the Department for Correctional Services, as part of SALA

While the views presented by speakers within The Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre public program are their own and are not necessarily those of either the University of South Australia, or The Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre, they are presented in the interest of open debate and discussion in the community and reflect our themes of: Strengthening our Democracy - Valuing our Diversity - Building our Future. The Hawke Centre reserves the right to change their program at any time without notice.
