Join us for an evening of migrant and indigenous food stories and how they inform identity and connection to heritage, home and country.

Durkhanai Ayubi is an Adelaide based writer and restaurateur. Her first book, Parwana: Recipes and Stories from an Afghan Kitchen, reflects on the relationship between food, place, history, culture and rolling identities. She is a Fellow of the global Atlantic Institute Fellowship based at Oxford University.

CORDELIA CLAYE
ELDER, SIERRA LEONE WOMEN’S ASSOCIATION OF SA
Cordelia Claye is a well-respected community elder, who migrated to Australia as a refugee over 12years ago. She is highly active, plays a great role as part of the “Council of Elders” in The Sierra Leonean Community and Sierra Leone Women’s Association of SA, like a mother to many and spends her time looking after her grandchildren or engaged in one of her hobbies, which is cooking.
Cordelia possesses great passion for cooking and has on many occasions taken a lead in showcasing our culture “sharing the flavours of the Sierra Leonean Kitchen” to so many people from diverse background including the wider Australian Community.
Over the past 5 years, Cordelia has been part of the Refugee Week “Food Demonstration” at Central Market, various community Centres as part of the “Fostering Integration Project”, SANAA Festival, Unmasked Festival, started online cooking class on Zoom during the COVID 19 pandemic, just to name a few.
She has the right attitude, always wearing a smile on her face and equipped with the essential qualities of a great cook. You can tell she enjoys what she does.

GEORGE GEORGIADIS
MANAGING DIRECTOR, NEVER NEVER DISTILLING CO.
George Georgiadis is Co-Founder and Managing Director of Never Never Distilling Co. As Never Never’s Spirit Creature, he has a deep knowledge of flavour and spirits. He’s fearless in his quest for flavour, whether it be in gin or other passions such as coffee, beer and cheese. You’ll often see a team member stick something in front of him for quick thoughts - “the nose knows” as they say.
George has travelled extensively, seeking out hundreds of distilleries across the world, and brings his passion for flavour into the R&D program at Never Never, through their gins and limited releases such as aquavit and amaro.
George is thrilled to work everyday in the dynamic South Australian food and beverage industry, and loves being based in the incredible region of McLaren Vale.
Hailing from Greek heritage, George has always been surrounded by food, and a knowledge that quality ingredients and process are key to flavour. He particularly enjoyed making an Ouzo style product that pays homage to his mum’s home island of Lesbos. If George hadn’t started a gin distillery, he’d probably be making sheep’s milk cheese!

MARK KOOLMATRIE
OWNER, TRIBAL EXPERTISE FACILITY AND CHAIRPERSON, STATE ABORIGINAL HERITAGE COMMITTEE – SA,
Mark Koolmatrie is a Tribal man from southern South Australia. He represents various Tribes including Ngarrindjeri and their subsets of Ramindjeri, Yaralde, Tangani, Warki and Meintangk.
He grew up in and around the Raukkan community on the shores of Lake Alexandrina SA which is famous for the recognition of David Unipon the famous inventor on our Australian currency. Throughout his working life he has been passionate about cultural heritage, education and the protection of his peoples right to thrive.
This all has come at a cost as the systemic destruction of his people’s lifestyle and basic human right to survive has meant he has always been at loggerheads with “authority” and his idea of community capacity building as opposed to top down approaches of control. He is an educator as a school teacher and lecturer, a researcher having written his thesis on The Tribal man in contemporary Australia and he is a cultural leader having been recently appointed Chair of State Aboriginal Heritage Committee in South Australia, the peak body for the protection of cultural heritage.

INES PATRITTI
DIRECTOR, PATRITTI WINES
Ines Patritti’s father Giovanni emigrated from the Piedmont region of Italy in 1925 and soon established the Patritti winery at its present day site in Dover Gardens in 1926. Ines, along with her three brothers Peter, John and Geoff, spent their entire working lives in the family business, ensuring that Giovanni’s legacy lives on today.
In February 2020, Ines retired as Managing Director of Patritti but remains a shareholder and Board Member, along with her three brothers. Ines is passionate about her local community and the arts and is a long time Chairperson of Red House Group Inc which manages Gallery M. In 2021 Ines was awarded joint Citizen of the Year by the City of Marion.

Whilst Deb Tribe always had a passion for radio she worked as a waitress, a Taxation Office worker, and a lawyer before she found a career in the world of radio.
Deb hosts the ABC Radio Adelaide Saturday morning program and says it is one of her “happy places”. If ever the excitement of producing and presenting radio fades for Deb, she can always bring people together in a different way, as she is a practicing marriage celebrant.
Always caught with a smile on her face and usually singing a song, Deb's favourite saying is "You only live once - so you should enjoy it." One of the best ways to do so is with food, friends and wine!
