Damien was born and raised in country South Australia and has spent the last 27 years living and working in Whyalla where he has married and had 3 children.
Damien completed his first degree at the now closed University of South Australia Underdale campus where he completed a Bachelor of Applied Science in the field of Exercise and Sport Science. Then completing a Bachelor of Education he began his teaching career in Port Lincoln in the mid 1990’s.
From there he moved to Whyalla where he met and married Lisa and started his family and taught at Our Lady Help of Christians School and Saint John’s College. Prior to the catholic schools in Whyalla amalgamating in 2008 to become Samaritan College, Damien was appointed the Principal and CEO of the Australian Technical College for the Spencer Gulf & Outback – operating three campuses in Whyalla, Port Augusta and Port Pirie and working closely with major industries in the region to secure school based apprenticeships for the students.
In 2012 he returned to Samaritan College as Deputy Principal before being appointed co-principal in 2013 and then the stand alone principal several years later – a position he still holds today.
Damien has a Masters degree in Educational Leadership and has been fortunate to study and learn in various locations all over the world in the past ten years.
He is a passionate supporter of the North Melbourne Football Club and involves himself in local football in a variety of ways and travels most weekends to watch his children play sport. Damien also was a keen tennis player and cricketer.
Damien is a proud member of the Whyalla community, having served on many boards, committees and advisory groups. Damien seeks to involve himself in as many ways as possible to support the growth and prosperity of Whyalla.
