Former Pro Vice Chancellor and Vice President: Division of Business, University of South Australia
Until his retirement in 2013, Professor Griffin held responsibility for the UniSA Business School, a Division of 9,500 students, 185 full-time academic staff and a budget of $99 million. He was responsible for strategic planning and review, quality assurance, international issues, and relations with the business community as well as budgeting, research and teaching and learning activities. Professor Griffin has led and managed a team of three Deans (Research, Teaching and Learning, International and External Engagement) and five Heads of School. In turn, Professor Griffin reported to the Vice-Chancellor and was a valued member of the University Senior Management Group.
In 2004 Professor Griffin was instrumental in winning EQUIS accreditation for the School which was re-accredited in 2007, 2010 and, only recently was re-accredited for a further three years, a further acknowledgement of the School's ability to increasingly raise its quality, develop international business education perspectives and closely align its education to the needs of businesses and industries globally. He conceived, planned and initiated a new School of Law that commenced operations in February 2008 and had it first graduates in March 2011.
Professor Griffin's success in the role of Pro Vice Chancellor has been recognised by a range of requests to contribute to the broader academic community, which have contributed strongly to raising the international profile of UniSA.
From 2010 to 2012 he chaired five of six EQUIS Review Teams assessing applications for accreditation or re-accreditation submitted by Business Schools in China, France, India, Hong Kong and New Zealand. In 2010 he chaired the review of the Graduate School of Business at the University of Newcastle and in 2012 he chaired the external review team for the Hong Kong Baptist University review of its College of International Education.
