Online lectures may be an ongoing reality but UniSA is pulling out all stops in 2022 to ensure new and continuing students are given a first-class welcome to match the in-person experience as the academic year begins.
Face-to-face campus tours (pre-registration required), online and interactive program information sessions and student panels will ensure the orientation process is as smooth as possible for the 2022 student cohort. Meanwhile teaching, learning and research activities will gradually transition back to ‘COVID-safe’ face-to-face on-campus delivery.
With the COVID-19 pandemic entering its third year, virtual learning and remote working have become second nature to many of UniSA’s 30,000+ students and staff, along with the rest of the world.
Zoom, Panopto, Moodle, Mixed Reality and Microsoft Teams are now standard tools for the university sector, including UniSA.
The shift is also reflected in the substantial growth in online education in the past two years, with UniSA Online experiencing a 51 per cent increase in the number of commencing students since the start of the pandemic. Students can now complete 23 separate degrees without setting foot on campus and another 70 online programs allow students to do the bulk of their studies remotely.
Nursing, midwifery and physiotherapy remain the most popular degrees at UniSA, but short courses are also in high demand this year, particularly in the aged care and digital learning fields – again, mirroring the impact of a pandemic.
New joint ventures between UniSA and global giants Accenture and LinkedIn will also give UniSA students the edge in 2022, leveraging industry knowledge and addressing skill gaps.
Business students will predominantly benefit from UniSA’s newly announced partnership with Accenture, a global powerhouse in the professional services sector.
Another feather in UniSA’s cap is being named LinkedIn Learning’s accreditation launch partner for Australia and the Asia Pacific, allowing students to gain credits into a UniSA degree while completing an online LinkedIn course.
And while lectures will remain online for now, face-to-face learning hasn’t been forgotten at UniSA.
Practicals, workshops, tutorials and research activities will gradually transition back to previously established face-to-face on-campus delivery modes in line with COVID-19 protocols as soon as practicable, with students advised on specific arrangements by course coordinators.
Mt Gambier and Whyalla will have a mix of online and campus activities to welcome new students in 2022 and the long overdue return of UniSA’s international students will be celebrated with a reception in Pridham Hall on 21 February.
Students should monitor their email for more details about orientation activities, and upcoming opportunities to engage and connect with fellow students and UniSA’s services.
One of the highlights returning to campus in March are Campus Fairs, where students can find one or more clubs to join, such as a USASA student club or a UniSA Sport club. Other activities students may want to consider include UniSA's leadership programs and the 2022 Careers Expo on Thursday 31 March at Adelaide Convention Centre.
