About the study

Have you cared for someone who has died in the last five years?

Would you be interested in sharing your experiences on what worked well when you engaged with rural palliative care services?

This research will help improve understanding about what is working well in rural palliative care from the perspective of primary care givers. The information gathered will help service providers and policy makers direct efforts towards increasing access to these positive aspects of rural palliative care, for the benefit of other rural people who need them in the future.

What is involved?

You will be asked to participate in an interview which may take around 60 minutes.  The interview will be conducted either in person, via telephone or Zoom and will be audio recorded. You will be asked about your experience with palliative care services, in particular what has gone well, over the time you were a primary care giver.

Eligibility Requirements

About you:

  • 18 years or older
  • You have been a primary carer of someone who has died in the last 5 years.
  • You can share your positive experiences with a regional/rural palliative care service*.

The person you cared for:

  • Lived in rural Australia AND accessed a regional/rural palliative care service* that have supported with symptom management, physical, psychosocial, or emotional supports.

*A palliative care service includes any supports provided by a specialist palliative care service (community, hospice, or hospital), a General Practitioner, aged care service, or other community services.

Benefits

In Australia, rural and remote communities do not experience equal access to palliative care. This research is a unique opportunity to investigate positive aspects of existing palliative care services that could be strengthened and further developed.
