This study aims to test a mediated reality technology combined with cycling exercise for people with painful knee osteoarthritis. We want to understand if this is an acceptable and feasible treatment and see if it can help reduce symptoms like knee pain. We also want to explore the mechanisms behind any positive effects of mediated reality. Understanding how it may work will allow us to further refine this technology. It may also help us identify which people may benefit most from this type of intervention, as well as customise this technology to individuals.
If you are eligible to be involved and you choose to participate, you will be asked to fill out questionnaires, participate in a baseline session at the University, attend 8 sessions of one-on-one treatment with the mediated reality technology paired with cycling exercise, and to provide us feedback on your experiences with the intervention at the end of the study in the form of a one-on-one interview with one of our study staff members. Intervention sessions will give you background on why we think this treatment may be helpful, why exercise is beneficial for pain and function in people with knee osteoarthritis, how to slowly increase your exercise levels, and provide you with a Mediated Reality and exercise treatment.
To be eligible, you need to have:
If you complete the full intervention period (8 sessions), and all outcome assessments you will be paid $40 via a pre-paid visa card.
