Assessing healthcare professionals’ and consumers’ awareness of the Black Triangle Scheme and the self-reported influence of the national scheme on adverse medicine event reporting in Australia: a mixed methods study
Our research team (University of South Australia, University of Adelaide, Monash University, University Medical Centre Groningen) is conducting a study to explore healthcare professionals’ and consumers’ awareness of the Therapeutic Goods Administration’s (TGA’s) Black Triangle Scheme and the influence of the scheme on their adverse medicine event (medicine side effect) reporting practices. With the help of the participants, the team hopes to uncover ways to improve medicine safety by enhancing adverse medicine event (medicine side effect) reporting to the TGA.
Participation involves completing an online survey. Following the survey, participants will have the option to indicate whether they are interested in participating in a follow-up interview. If they express interest, we will ask for their contact information to schedule the interview. Only a subset of participants will be selected for interviews.
Adult (18 years or older) consumers who live in Australia are eligible to participate.
The study may not benefit participants directly, but they will be providing valuable contributions to our understanding of the reach and influence of the TGA’s regulatory initiative, the Black Triangle Scheme in medicine side effects reporting.
Upon completion of the survey, participants will be requested to enter into a lottery draw for a chance to win one of four $50 gift vouchers.
Additionally, if they are invited and choose to participate in the interview, healthcare professionals will receive a payment of $100-200, and consumers will receive a payment of $35.
