Predictive risk modelling (PRM) is the use of data to forecast future need. In health care, we need to be thinking ahead and planning for likely outcomes, through using clinical information to predict future healthcare needs.

Nurses spend a lot of time entering healthcare data. Discovering patterns allows us to make useful predictions from the data.

The RBRC developed, pilot-tested, and implemented predictive harm algorithms for the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network and the Central Adelaide Local Health Network.

Using predictive harm algorithms, we identified factors that were associated with an increased risk of adverse events.

We are now developing the model further, to include at-risk patient populations, falls risk, and length of stay forecasting.
