Often we talk about what leadership is to define nuances of this debated, ambiguous and puzzling concept. While scholars define leadership in all sort of ways; it is still complex to comprehend. Research shows that contemporary Muslims have not provided adequate definitions of leadership, and lack exemplar leadership models in practice. This lecture will explore what leadership is not from an Islamic and conventional perspectives, and the implications of this on defining, acquiring and practicing leadership.
Dr Nezar Faris, Research Fellow with Centre for Islamic Thought & Education is a scholar in Leadership and Management with a focus on the context of Muslim organisations in the West. He holds a PhD in (Leadership) from Griffith University’s National Centre of Excellence for Islamic Studies (NCEIS). Dr Faris’ work has appeared in The Leadership Quarterly. He has a Co-authored book: Leadership in Islam: Thoughts, Processes and Solutions in Australian Organizations (Palgrave MacMillan).
