Is leadership something that can be learned, or do you just have to be born with some combination of personality and capabilities that sets you apart?
The stage is set for a fresh look at the sources of leadership, with the statement: Leaders are born, not made forming the motion for this year’s University of South Australia Great Debate.
A panel of six high profile, influential, and inspirational individuals, all of whom are leaders in their careers and areas of interest, will take sides to debate the motion, with each speaker having five minutes to state their case, with a short period set aside for questions.
The Hon Penny Wong, Labor Senator for South Australia, Stephen Yarwood, Lord Mayor, Adelaide City Council, and peace activist and writer, Gill Hicks, MBE, will argue against the motion. Kate Thiele, CEO Guide Dogs SA/NT, David Koch, Chairman, Port Adelaide Football Club and UniSA’s own Vice Chancellor, Professor David Lloyd will argue for the motion.
Pro Vice Chancellor (Business and Law), Professor Marie Wilson says the Great Debate, which is an annual UniSA Business School event, is a unique opportunity to bring together alumni and business partners in a forum which is engaging and thought-provoking.

The Debate will take place at City West campus on September 11, from 12pm-2pm, in the Bradley Forum, Hawke Building. Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Catherine House Sagarmatha Program to provide educational support to women transitioning out of homelessness.
