South Australian basketball legend Phil Smyth will officially launch Exercise Benefits Magill health and fitness centre at UniSA’s Magill campus on Friday.
The upgraded health and fitness facility encompasses new infrastructure and an innovative approach to providing health and fitness services for students, staff and the general public.
The fit for purpose gym’s special features include virtual cycling, monkey bars and cable weights, while the facility is part of the Community Clinics programs at UniSA, offering prescribed personalised fitness programs to help individuals meet their exercise goals.
Head of the School of Health Sciences Professor Roger Eston says the new facility will invigorate the student campus experience and provide a vibrant and welcoming environment for the whole community to start or continue on a healthy lifestyle.
Prof Eston says Exercise Benefits Magill links with the UniSA Allied Health support clinics that can provide laboratory monitoring for people with chronic conditions, exercise therapies for rehabilitation, through to sports science expertise and testing facilities for high-performance athletes.
“This development looks sensational and delivers a dedicated high-class workout space for students, staff and the general public,” he says.
“We’re really proud of the fact that every staff member at Exercise Benefits Magill is a graduate of our Human Movement program.
“Furthermore, Exercise Benefits Magill also plays a significant role in meeting the placement requirements of our Human Movement students, providing them with valuable on-the-job experience.
“The new facility will also host our Physiotherapy for Children program called ‘Motor to the Max’, supporting student-delivered physiotherapy services to preschool children.”
Prof Eston says the University was delighted to have four-time Olympian and five-time World Championship athlete Phil Smyth officially launching the facility at an event on Friday afternoon.
“The University has recently formed a high performance partnership with Basketball SA, and we’re pleased Phil can be with us to launch our new facility which builds on our commitment to both community health and fitness and high performance sport.”
Exercise Benefits Magill will be launched this Friday at 3pm onsite at Magill campus.
