This year the University of South Australia will kick off the academic year with a huge arts and music festival, GEAR UP 2013, at City West campus headlining some of Australia’s coolest indie and pop rock bands on Wednesday February 27 from 12 noon.

The event to welcome all UniSA students, from old hands to first-timers and from all UniSA campuses, is set to be one of the biggest and most vibrant uni parties in decades.

With two stages filled and a total of twenty bands, in the line-up, Gear Up 2013 is set to impress music and art lovers alike.

Headlining musicians for Gear Up 2013Headliners include fine Australian talents Brisbane’s Ball Park Music (pictured left top) and Hungry Kids of Hungary (pictured top right), Adelaide’s own, The Salvadors and Queensland’s Busby Marou (pictured bottom left) and the line-up will also include Asta & Koolta (pictured bottom right) as well as a collection of Adelaide bands all with interesting connections to UniSA.

On top of the quality music the City West campus itself will undergo a transformation. UniSA’s own art and design students will be showcasing their talents with interactive installations and art works around the campus.

If this wasn’t enough the day will also feature a silent disco, buskers of all shapes and sizes, pop up performances and a list of amazing activities that keeps growing.

Key organiser for the event, UniSA’s deputy director student experience, Anne-Marie Parsons says it promises to enliven the West End of the city and give new and old students a sense of energy and celebration at the start of the academic year.

“There will be lots of great sounds and wonderful colours on campus and there will be an opportunity for students to learn a bit about campus life beyond lectures and tutorials – the clubs, the music, the art and drama, and all the non-academic aspects of student life,” Parsons says.

“It’s also a party, so it will be a great opportunity to meet other students.”
