Eleven high achieving UniSA students will embark on exciting overseas experiences next year, after being awarded prestigious 2025 New Colombo Plan (NCP) Scholarships.
The students will travel to South Korea, Japan, India, Indonesia, Fiji, Hong Kong, Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia, studying at universities and undertaking industry internships and language training.
The NCP Scholarships are a Federal Government initiative to boost Australia’s knowledge of, and connections to, the Indo-Pacific region through undergraduate immersions of up to 19 months.
This 2025 round marks UniSA’s highest number of NCP Scholarship wins since the initiative was established in 2014. The 11 UniSA students are among an elite group of young Australians to be offered the esteemed opportunity, which marks its 10th anniversary this year. They will play an important role helping to raise awareness of the significance of the Indo-Pacific region in Australia through building enduring cross-country relationships.
UniSA congratulates this year’s NCP Scholarship Plan winners and wishes them well in the life-changing experiences they are set to enjoy. The University’s 11 recipients of the New Colombo Scholarship Program for 2025 are:
Alex Nash (Bachelor of Business (Tourism and Event Management)) |
Alex will undergo intensive language training and event management studies at Mahidol University International College in Thailand. He is looking forward to taking part in the Songkran Water Festival, which is one of the Southeast Asian nation’s largest celebrations, marking their new year. Alex, using the knowledge he will gain from Thai tourism and events experts, aspires to create a more culturally rich events industry in Australia. “I hope to learn as much as I can from my time in Thailand, and then bring that experience back with me to improve the event landscape in Australia.” |
Angus McKinnon (Bachelor of Health Science) |
A UniSA online student based in regional Victoria, Angus is eager to take part in this global exchange program and have the opportunity to learn in a practical, face-to-face environment. He will study at International University - VNU-HCM in Vietnam. Angus has a professional background in disability and learning support, and aims to understand how disability services operate in Vietnam, and how social, cultural and environmental factors influence health systems and service access in the developing country. “The chance to live, learn and work in an international environment, with the opportunity to develop strong connections with locals at each step of my program, really excites me.” |
Anna Revesz (Bachelor of Digital Media) |
Anna’s learning journey in Japan will see her discovering the digital media trends and processes that make the East Asian country a technological powerhouse. Her host is the International College of Liberal Arts at Yamanashi Gakuin University in Japan. She will also undertake a three-month internship at a Japanese GLAM institution, where she’ll enrich her understanding of Japanese approaches to art and design and the skills required to curate, archive and exhibit works in accessible and meaningful ways. |
Annalise Psevdos (Bachelor of Laws (Honours) / Bachelor of Psychology) |
Annalise aspires to become a practicing lawyer. A deep admirer of Indonesia and its intricate culture, she will first undergo Indonesian language training and be taught local traditions and customs. She’ll then study courses at Universitas Gadjah Mada that are centred around the Indonesian judicial system, before completing a two-month legal internship. She aims to foster meaningful professional connections between young Australian and Indonesian lawyers. “This experience will broaden my understanding of how different legal systems operate and interact in the international world, equipping me with unique insights from a foreign perspective that I can bring into my future legal career.” |
Hae-Yun Kim (Bachelor of Secondary Education (Honours)) |
Hae-Yun Kim, a future educator, aims to expand her cultural and pedagogical understanding through a 14-month program in South Korea. Her host is Seoul National University in South Korea, where she will undertake courses focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI), mathematics education and organic chemistry. She is looking forward to the opportunity to learn the teaching principles that underpin South Korea’s top-tier education system. In 2026, Hae-Yun will then travel to Cambodia to complete a teacher’s assistant internship, where she’ll be able to apply the global teaching perspectives she gained while in South Korea. |
Jess Tresidder (Bachelor of Business (Marketing)) |
Jess started her own e-commerce business at just 16 and is determined to progress her entrepreneurial prowess. She will study at City University of Hong Kong and undergo extensive Cantonese language training. This will allow her the opportunity to navigate innovative hubs such as the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks, where she’ll engage with entrepreneurial leaders and gain insight into impactful business strategies. “I’m excited to immerse myself in Hong Kong’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. It’s a chance to see how business ideas are brought to life in one of the most innovative tech cities in the world.” |
Jordan De Visser (Bachelor of Information Technology) |
After a visit to India in 2017, Jordan became captivated by the subcontinent’s vast culture, which spurred a love for Hindi, one of the country’s official languages. A programming and software enthusiast, he is keen to gain knowledge and experience in India, an emerging global IT hub. Jordan will combine his passion for the nation with his career goals, undertaking intensive Hindi training before studying courses on AI, data analytics and machine learning at Ashoka University. He then hopes to travel to Mumbai to complete a software internship at Indian multinational technology firm, Tata Consultancy Services. |
Jordan Lewis (Bachelor of Business) |
Jordan will study at the University of the South Pacific in Fiji. Currently working as a disability support worker, he is a strong advocate for empowering those with a disability. Jordan will expand his multi-disciplinary approach towards the management and economics of disability support during his immersion. He will explore how processes can be adapted to suit diverse cultures. After the completion of his degree, Jordan is eager to gain an internship with the Fiji-based non-government organisation, Pacific Disability Forum. “I hope to contribute further in the progression of disability rights and the societal perspectives between Australia and Fiji, ensuring those with disabilities can have their desires become reality.” |
Phong Dang (Bachelor of Business (Marketing & International))

Growing up bilingual, Phong understands the power of language and its ability to gain unique insight into people. Hosted by Korea University in South Korea, Phong aims to hone his Korean language skills, which will help him meaningfully liaise with those in the business space from vendors to senior executives. His ultimate goal is to secure an internship with a major South Korean corporation such as Samsung or Hyundai Motors to experience marketing on a global scale. “This NCP experience will allow me access to a whole new pool of global networks. The adrenaline rush of having a million different things to learn about excites me.” |
Solli Raphael (Bachelor of Health Science (Nutrition and Exercise))

Solli has extensive experience working with community groups, the private sector and government organisations. He is eager to use this NCP opportunity to broaden his understanding of community health, which acknowledges the benefits of incorporating Eastern and Western medical approaches. Hosted by Rikkyo University in Japan, Solli will study exercise science, wellness, and rehabilitation before completing an internship at a dedicated health facility for the elderly, providing him a real-world setting to apply his newfound knowledge. Solli is determined to advance Australia’s health policies through creating tangible outcomes which cater to our nation's diverse demographics. |
Thomas Neville (Bachelor of Business (Economics, Finance and Trade)/Bachelor of Finance) |
Thomas is passionate about economic policy that drives sustainable and inclusive growth. He will be hosted by the Chinese University of Hong Kong in Hong Kong and is looking forward to his third NCP experience, in this booming Asian metropolis. Thomas will embark on intensive Cantonese training and undertake study on housing policy and urban transportation. He hopes to secure an internship with the Hong Kong City Planning Department. In previous years, Thomas travelled to Indonesia and South Korea through the NCP program, which he found incredibly insightful. |
