Developing Closer Ties’ will address key topics of interest to the EU and EU-Australia relations, including Culture, Commerce, Heritage, and Education and Research.

Presented by the Hawke EU Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence and the Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre, ‘Developing Closer Ties: EU Member State Perspectives on EU-Australia Relations’  will feature the largest delegation of European Ambassadors and High Commissioners to ever visit Adelaide for a public event.

The Ambassadorial Delegation includes His Excellency Dr Michael Pulch, EU Ambassador to Australia; Dr Bernhard Zimburg, Austrian Ambassador to Australia; Dr Anna Elisabeth Prinz, German Ambassador to Australia; Betty Bernardica Pavelich Sirois, Croatian Ambassador to Australia; and Martha Mavrommati, Cyprus High Commissioner to Australia.

Director of the Hawke EU Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence and Network, Professor Anthony Elliott says the event will open timely dialogue and debate for the development and deepening of Australia-EU relations.

“The EU is Australia's second-biggest trade partner, and our largest source of foreign investment,” Prof Elliott says.

“With two-way goods and services worth nearly $100 billion, and foreign direct investment worth almost $1.1 trillion, ensuring Australia continues to nurture and develop successful relationships with the EU is paramount.

“When you add current political and environmental dynamics – think Brexit and Australia’s EU Free Trade Agreement negotiations – being able to hear from Australia’s European Ambassadors in person is an opportunity not to be missed.”

The forum will be held on Thursday 28 February from 6:00pm – 7:30pm in the Allan Scott Auditorium, Hawke Building, on UniSA’s City West campus.
