The University of South Australia will showcase more than 300 degrees and help prospective students on the journey to their future careers when it opens up its City West campus to an expected 12,000 visitors at this year’s Open Day on Sunday, August 19.
Future students hoping to follow their passions to become South Australia’s next generation of researchers, engineers, pilots, lawyers, teachers, exercise physiologists, nurses and allied health professionals and a host of other careers, will have access to a wide range of information about study options and what to expect from their years at university.
For the first time UniSA has developed a special Open Day interactive smart phone app to help prospective students create a personalised itinerary for Open Day, navigate City West campus to make sure they get to information sessions easily, interact with UniSA on Facebook and Twitter and register for further information events in September.
Nigel Relph, UniSA’s Pro Vice Chancellor: International and Development says Open Day is an opportunity for people from across the community to learn about the different careers available and the study options that can take them there.
“Open Day is often the first time many people will get the chance to experience what university life and community is all about,” Mr Relph says.
“While the event provides valuable information on the range of courses the University offers, the day also gives prospective students an understanding of what it’s like to be a UniSA student.
“With hundreds of staff and student volunteers on hand to share their knowledge, and a wide range of activities and presentations taking place during the day, those attending Open Day should get a real feel for the drive, creativity and global engagement that UniSA fosters.”
Known for a strong focus on delivering work-ready graduates by making real world experience a key part of its teaching and learning, 91 per cent of UniSA graduates available for full time work, find professional positions within four months of graduating.
Across the day, visitors to Open Day can share in 84 presentations on everything from the new Bachelor of Clinical Exercise Physiology to ‘Around the World with UniSA’, a special session on the international experiences available to UniSA students, all showcasing UniSA’s commitment to providing students an excellent educational experience.
And there will be no shortage of things to do with the opportunity to try out the Aviation Academy flight simulator, entertainment from dancing robots, a Wii competition and the tours of UniSA’s Mobile Allied Health Clinic just some of the interactive activities available.
Visitors are encouraged to get involved – whether it’s taking part in the virtual foam demonstration at the Digital Foam exhibit or diagnosing a microscopic disease at the Laboratory Medicine display.
The Architecture Museum, South Australian School of Art Gallery, Samstag Museum of Art and Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Library will welcome visitors across the day, showcasing the University’s engagement in the visual arts and the political and cultural history of the nation.
Winner of UniSA’s inaugural Open Day Play Live competition, indie-pop, singer-songwriter, Sofie from St Francis de Sales College, will be live on stage at 12:15pm. Other live performances across the day include ARIA Award winning DJ Mark C, singer and fashion designer Morgan Joanel and Adelaide vocal trio Georgia Germein & the Germein Sisters.
Channel 9 personality Brenton Ragless will also be roaming campus as the official UniSA Open Day MC.
The interactive UniSA Open Day smart phone app, which offers a presentation schedule, campus maps, transport information and integrated social media feeds, is available now on iTunes and Google Play so people can make the most of their time on campus.
