Enschede is a municipality and vibrant student city in the east of the Netherlands. Around 30,000 students are enrolled either at Saxion Hogeschool Enschede, the Academy of Music, the Academy of Art, or the University of Twente. 

There is an active presence of many associations in this city including study, sports and cultural associations as well as associations for social matters. Enschede is also home to the FC Twente football club, former champions of the Netherlands.

Enschede is a relatively quiet, safe and pleasant city to live and work in. Modern shopping facilities attract people from both the Dutch and German local region.

All students must meet standard exchange selection criteria and any host institution restrictions.

Credits are measured by the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) and the following applies:

• 18 units = 30 ECTS
• 13.5 units = 22.5 ECTS

It can sometimes be difficult to make up exactly 22.5 units (not all courses will be worth exactly 7.5 ECTS), but you should be able to get very close. Make sure you check with your PD if you don’t have exactly 22.5 ECTS.

The UT also offer ‘modules’ which consist of two or three individual courses, taken as a whole, and equivalent to 15ECTS (9 units)

International students are required to provide evidence of English proficiency by providing one of the following documents:

• Academic IELTS, minimum overall band score of 6.0
• TOEFL, IBT (internet-based test) minimum score of 80
• TOEFL, ITP (institutional testing program) minimum score of 543
• TOEIC with a minimum overall score of at least 790 (containing both modules ‘Speaking and Writing’ and ‘Listening and Reading’)
• Cambridge C2 Proficiency or C1 Advanced (A, B or C)
• DAAD language test: GER B2, UNIcert II, ALTE Level 3.

Note: IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC and DAAD test results may not be over two years old at the start of your exchange period.

An airport pick-up service is arranged on selected days in August and February picking up new incoming international students. You will be welcomed at Schiphol airport by student activists from UniTe and guided to the UT campus, by train.

To register for the airport pick up service please complete the registration form and indicate you would like to be picked up from Schiphol Airport.

The University of Twente guarantees to offer all exchange students needing an entry visa and/or residence permit timely, appropriate , and affordable furnished housing. You will receive information from UT via email once your entry visa payment and registration has been received by UT. Due to demand, it is strongly recommended that you contact the housing office early in the application process, in order to avoid disappointment.
