University overview
The University of the Philippines is the country’s national university established in 1908. The university systems is composed of seven constituent universities and one autonomous college spread throughout fifteen campuses in the archipelago. UP Diliman (UPD) is the biggest constituent of the University of the Philippines System (UPS) in terms of student population.
The university is highly ranked as a tertiary institution in the Philippines and Asia, especially in clinical, pre-clinical and health, social sciences and emerging economics.
There are various activities that are organised by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (OVCSA) in coordination or partnership with the colleges, the University Student Council and College Councils to make students aware of available student services on campus.
At UPD there are 198 student organisations focused on academic, alliance, cause-oriented, community service, dormitory association, fraternity, regional/provincial, religious, special interest, sorority, and sports and recreation. These organizations play a vital role in the enhancement of the academic, leadership development and social well-being of students.

City overview
Quezon City, which gets its name from former president Manuel L. Quezon, was a former capital of the Philippines. The city is located 15 kms away from the current capital, Manila.
Quezon City is the hub of the entertainment industry in the Philippines. The city is known as the “City of the Stars” as most of the country’s A-listers reside here, close to the local TV network. Quezon City is also known for its shopping, nightlife and culinary experiences where you can find some of the best “hole in the wall” restaurants.

Country overview
The Philippines or Filipinas, officially the Republic of the Philippines, is an archipelagic country in Southeast Asia. Located in the western Pacific Ocean, it is made up of roughly 7,641 islands, which are broadly categorized under three geographical divisions from north to south: Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
The capital city is Manila and the most populous city is Quezon City. The Philippines has a population of around 108 million people spread throughout its islands, with most people living in the Manila Metro area. The Philippines is the 12th most populated country in the world and has a massive diaspora with around 10 million Filipinos living overseas. You're likely to hear many languages spoken throughout the country however Filipino and English are the official ones.
The Philippines' location on the Pacific Ring of Fire and close to the equator has endowed it with abundant natural resources and some of the world's greatest biodiversity. With so many islands to pick from, your experience of the Philippines will be unique to you!
Staying in the Manila metro area offers the heady buzz of a city lifestyle, but head for any of the tiny islands and you’ll be in an idyllic paradise of white sand and clear waters. Trek to volcano craters, swim in crystal clear lakes, explore hidden caves, climb tropical mountains and explore this Pacific country. Visit the world-class Banaue Rice Terraces, where ancestors of the indigenous community carved these 2,000-year-old terraces with their bare hands. The Rice Terraces are considered the “Eighth Wonder of the World” by UNESCO.
The Philippines is known as a great handicraft centre where you can find one-of-a-kind items. For those interested in nature, Philippines is home to nearly 200 mammal species, more than 600 species of birds, over 300 species of reptiles and amphibians, and around 400 coral species.

Only 2,000 of the islands that make up the Philippines are inhabited and nearly 5,000 still unnamed on global maps.One of the most remarkable geological formations in the world, the Taal Volcano consists of an island (Luzon) with a lake (Taal Lake), with a smaller island in the lake (Volcano Island) which has a lake (Main Crater of Taal Volcano) inside which there is another tiny islet (Volcano Island)!

Credit Equivalencies
Students must take 12 UPD credits per semester (minimum and maximum), which is equivalent to 18 UniSA units. Most modules at UPD are worth 3 credits.

Getting there
University of the Philippines Diliman does not offer airport pick up. Students will need to make their own way to the campus from Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

Accommodation
Exchange students are automatically reserved a slot at Acacia and Centennial Dormitory by OIL Diliman (UP Exchange Office). Other dormitories within campus are reserved for local students. You will need to let them know if you decide to undertake alternative housing so places can be given to students on the waitlist.
The University Student Council in UP Diliman has compiled a list of alternative housing options for within and outside campus. You may want to join the Facebook group that posts available housing options or potential roommates for UP students here.
Important note: all other housing options apart from Acacia and Centennial Dormitory are not managed by OIL Diliman (UP Exchange Office). The office will not be responsible should there be any problems with the housing. It is advised that you take additional precaution when considering other housing options.

Living costs
As an exchange partner with the University of South Australia, you do not have to pay tuition fees to University of the Philippines Diliman, instead you will pay tuition as you would normally at UniSA. Travel and living expenses are at your own cost. The table below gives an indication of costs you will incur:

Register your travel
To participate in an exchange experience, you must register your travel with International SOS (iSOS). We will provide instructions on how to do this throughout the process.
