The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) was founded in 1963, with a mission to combine tradition with modernity to bring together China and the West. The University is ranked 9th in Asia and 46th in the world in the 2020 QS World University Ranking.  
 
The main campus commands a panoramic view of the Tolo Harbour and is surrounded by large natural reserves. Buildings on campus features a blend of architectural styles from traditional China to modern western styles. With flexible course choices and credit system, exchange students can mix and match courses from eight academic faculties; Arts, Business Administration, Education, Engineering, Law, Medicine, Science and Social Sciences. CUHK’s School of Management and Economics is AACSB accredited.  
 
CUHK has a ‘Buddy Programme’ that is designed to help exchange and study-abroad students familiarise themselves with living in Hong Kong, promoting cultural understanding. 

Shatin (also spelt Sha Tin) is a city along the Shing Mun River in the Shatin district of East New Territories, Hong Kong S.A.R. The city was founded in 1973 by the New Towns Development Programme of the Hong Kong government.

Cycling is very popular among the locals and visitors, with a cycle track running along Tolo Highway drawing many occasional and dedicated cyclists at the weekends. The city is well connected with road, railway and air connections.

Hong Kong, officially the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) of the People's Republic of China , is a special administrative region in southern China. It maintains separate governing and economic systems from that of mainland China under the principle of "one country, two systems".

Hong Kong is one of the most densely populated places in the world, with over 7.4 million people living in a 1,104-square-kilometre area. Cantonese, Mandarin and English are the official and most used languages, with a scattering of dialects and other languages also present. As the world's tenth-largest exporter and ninth-largest importer, Hong Kong is one of the world's most significant financial centres and commercial ports. This highly developed territory ranks fourth on the UN Human Development Index.

The dense nature of the region has been a cause for innovation, making it a centre for modern architecture. Hong Kong is the world's most vertical city, with the largest number of skyscrapers of any city in the world. Despite the scale of development, this cosmopolitan city also has a surprisingly green side, thanks to zoning laws.

There is plenty to do and see here. Wander along Victoria Harbour for daily light shows, commute to class via ferry, hike mountains by the sea, shop for cutting edge fashion in massive malls and make your way through night markets. Everything is easily accessible as Hong Kong has some of the best public transportation in the world. There's a lot of history and culture to be found here, as well as the chance to experience the very best of modern living and education.

Did you know?

Hong Kong is made up of more than 200 islands which is why it is often necessary to travel over water bodies. Some of these islands are completely uninhabitable and unreachable.

The Hong Kong Sevens which is a rugby tournament held in March of every year is the largest in the world, with over 28 international teams competing for the prize of $150,000.

Students are classified as full time when registering for a minimum of 12 credits per semester (students must maintain 12 credits to satisfy the Hong Kong Immigration student visa requirements). 
 
Students must take 12 Hong Kong credits for 13.5 UniSA units or 14-15 Hong Kong credits for 18 UniSA units. 

UniSA students are exempted from meeting language requirements.

• Students can select courses from a variety of disciplines to fit their academic interests during their stay at CUHK.  Please refer to our website to learn more about course arrangements here.
• Business courses at CUHK are extremely competitive.  Students are strongly advised to have flexible study plans.
• Students interested in taking courses with topics related to China, can consider courses offered by the Contemporary China Studies programme which are taught entirely in English and catered for students who wish to enrich their knowledge in China’s cultural past, modern history and contemporary history. • Limited law courses are available only to students majoring in Law.  This is a specialized programme so there are many course and quota restrictions.

CUHK does not offer airport pick up. Students will need to make their own way to the campus from Hong Kong International Airport.

Undergraduate students are affiliated with one of the nine residential Colleges.  The Colleges are congenial communities with own hostels, dining halls and other facilities.  Students receive pastoral care and whole-person education through the Colleges.  Exchange students admitted as undergraduates will become members of one of the nine Colleges and accommodated in shared rooms (double or triple) at the hostels managed by either the Colleges or the International House.  The International House is apartment style housing.

Morningside College, S.H. Ho College, and C.W. Chu College offer mandatory college communal dinners.  Students have dinner together with the College representatives and guests three times per week.  This is an excellent opportunity for students to interact regularly.  An additional meal charge will apply to students affiliated with Morningside College, S.H. Ho College, and C.W. Chu College.

College assignment is done randomly but modified manually to balance the gender ratio and the distribution of nationalities.  Students will be asked to indicate their housing preference on the online application form – they can rank their choices among (1) College Hostel, (2) College Hostel with mandatory college communal dinners (additional meal charge applies), and (3) International House (I-House).  As there is a mandatory dinner plan with Morningside College, S.H. Ho College, and C.W. Chu College, we hope that students requesting for these three Colleges have a genuine interest to live there.  However, there is no guarantee that students will be assigned to their first preference due to limited quota (unless they are from institutions where a formal exchange agreement is established with a specific College at CUHK).

The University Health Service at CUHK provides free primary health care and clinical services to all exchange students. Exchange students can arrange additional accidental and medical insurance at their own cost during their stay in Hong Kong to cover their travelling around Asia.
