FH Münster - University of Applied Sciences was founded in 1971 with two campuses in Münster and Steinfurt.

Münsterland region and around 35 km from Münster. With more than 15,000 students in 12 Departments and two central scientific units, FH Münster ranges among the biggest German Universities of Applied Sciences. 

The International Office at FH Münster offers free German language courses where you are paired with a native German speaker to help you with your German. The International Reception Service Team offered by FH Münster (FHiRST) helps international students to get started more easily and to become accustomed to student life in Münster and Steinfurt, offering guidance and assistance before and during their stay.

The city of Münster, which was founded in 793 A.D. is rich in history and tradition. However the city, which is also known as the bicycle capital of Germany, is young at heart with students making up one fifth of the nearly 300,000 inhabitants. Münster is home to the Picasso Museum, which has more than 800 lithographs by the artist - an almost complete collection of his printed works. You can also step back in time at the fascinating Muhlenhof Freilichtmuseum where rural history comes alive in an outdoor museum of some 30 historical buildings.

Germany, officially the Federal Republic of Germany, is a country in Central and Western Europe, bordering Denmark, Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, France, Luxembourg, Belgium, and the Netherlands. It’s an ideal hub for European travel.

Germany was a founding member of the EU, co-founder of the Eurozone and is part of the Schengen Area. The country is also a member of the UN, G7, G20, OECD and NATO. With a population of over 83 million people, Germany is the largest country in the EU and a world power.

Germany is a top tourist location. Outside of German stereotypes of beer, bread, and Oktoberfest, you’ll find that there's more to the country than meets the eye. The capital city of Berlin, is a centre for culture. Art, film and music flourish here from the mainstream to the most underground, and you could spend years trying to see everything in this one city. The country is surprisingly cheap, and both in-country and international travel is affordable for students. With the exception of Poland and the Czech Republic, the cost of living in all of its neighbouring countries is higher, with people in Switzerland paying roughly 50% more for the same things!

Germany has great infrastructure, a reputation for punctuality and is well connected in every area. Diverse locations such as the Baltic Sea, Black Forest, the Rhine, Ruhr Valley and Harz Mountains are just a quick and quiet train trip away. Germany also has the luxury of being one of the safest countries in the world, competing with Norway. If you are not a seasoned traveller, or if this is your first time outside of Australia, Germany is a good choice for you.

The Frankfurt Book Fair is the world’s largest trade fair for books based on both the number of visitors and publishing companies that participate. Berlin is 9 times bigger than Paris, has more bridges than Venice, and is said to have more waterways than Amsterdam, Stockholm and Venice combined.

All students must meet standard exchange selection criteria and any host institution restrictions.

Credits are measured by the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) and the following applies: 

• 18 units = 30 ECTS 
• 13.5 units = 22.5 ECTS 

It can sometimes be difficult to make up exactly 22.5 units (not all courses will be worth exactly 7.5 ECTS), but you should be able to get very close. Make sure you check with your Program Director if you don’t have exactly 22.5 ECTS 

In most departments, the language of instruction is German. A B1 Level Certificate in German is recommended by these Departments to ensure successful completion of studies. 

For courses taught in English, a B1 Level Certificate in English (or equivalent) is required.

FH Münster does not offer airport pick up. You will need to make your own way to the campus from Münster-Osnabrück International Airport.

FH Münster does not offer on-campus accommodation. Students will need to make their own accommodation arrangement while on exchange with Studierendenwerk. The Studierendenwerk is a separate institution and does not belong to FH Münster. The rooms are allotted on first come, first served basis. Information regarding application procedure is sent by the Incomings Coordinator

As an exchange partner with the University of South Australia, you do not have to pay tuition fees to FH Münster, instead you will pay tuition as you would normally at UniSA. Travel and living expenses are at your own cost. The table below gives an indication of costs you will incur:
