Program details

Students available for work placement opportunities come from a range of creative disciplines, including:

  • blueprints-architect-house Architecture minus-thin plus-thin

    Students studying their Master of Architecture can undertake an internship, placement or industry-based project as one of their elective courses. This involves undertaking a short-term work placement of 180 hours (approximately five weeks full-time or equivalent part-time), with final work arrangements negotiated between the host organisation and the student. The main placement period is November - February, although placements may be undertaken outside this period if agreed by the University, the student and the host organisation. 

    The aim of the architecture placement program is to provide students with specialised practical expertise in applying their discipline knowledge and skills within a work-integrated learning environment, to compile the outcomes of that experience as a professional and transferable product, and critically reflect upon their experience.

    Students will apply advanced and specialised expertise to document and critically analyse the practical application of discipline-specific knowledge and skills in modern organisations and prepare for the transition to employment.

    Students studying a Bachelor of Interior Architecture are required to seek out and complete 120 hours of work placement during the third and fourth years of their degree.

    The overall aim of the Interior Architecture Workplacement Course is to provide students with practical and professional experience in the field of interior design and allied industries within a professional placement setting.

    Students studying a Postgraduate Master of Urban and Regional Planning may elect to undertake a short-term work placement of 180 hours (approximately five weeks full-time or equivalent part-time) within an approved professional planning office.

  • feather Art and design minus-thin plus-thin

    Students studying any specialisation in the Master of Design program (including communication design, industrial design, interior design, design and construct, contemporary art and sustainable design) can undertake an internship as one of their elective courses. The aim of the internship is to extend students’ understanding of the professional practice through involvement in a range of activities within a structured placement.

    The duration of these internships is generally 180 hours (approximately five weeks full-time or equivalent part-time), with final work arrangements negotiated between the host organisation and the student. The timing of these internships is highly flexible and can be undertaken at any time of the year.
