MY STORY, MY WAY EXHIBITION

My Story, My Way is an art competition and exhibition facilitated by the Australian Refugee Association (ARA) and featuring the artwork of young people from refugee or migrant backgrounds.
The collection of artworks has been created during ARA’s Youth Hangout Program, in school art classes and at people’s homes. The artists have captured memories of their past, poignant moments in life and reflections on their experience of moving between worlds.
Accompanying the exhibition is an Artist Market showcasing artworks from people of all ages from refugee or migrant backgrounds. Selected artworks are available for sale. My Story, My Way exhibition also features a series of short films presented as part of the Ghan International Film Festival Australia. See below for more information about the films.
The exhibition coincides with SA Refugee Week (19 June - 25 June 2022) and complements the ARA and Hawke Centre Conversation.
Supporting the work of the Australian Refugee Association, Nexus Arts will present Healing (Saturday 25 June, 7.30pm). This concert, featuring performances by Zuhir Naji & Saleh Al Mansoor will be presented during SA Refugee Week 2022, with all profits being donated to Australian Refugee Association.

GHAN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL AUSTRALIA
This year marks the 7th year of the home grown Ghan International Film Festival Australia (GIFFA), which started in Adelaide in 2016 by a refugee Afghan film maker Fahim Hashimy and his team. This thriving event now runs for 4 days and screens across Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney from October each year. As always, proceeds from GIFFA support education and nutrition programs for street children in Kabul capital of Afghanistan.
In addition to short films of high artistic merit by unknown film makers, highlights from previous GIFFAs have included special screenings of films such as Letter to the President by Roya Sadat, Hava, Maryam, Ayesha by Sharaa Karimi, and the Oscar award nominated film Boz Kashi Boys.
What was originally a rare opportunity for emerging Afghan film makers to show their work to international audiences has now become almost a lifeline for creativity and activism under the current state of oppression, hardship and turmoil in Afghanistan. The 2022 GIFFA will be presented later this year, and will include the opportunity to hear talks with acclaimed international speakers, who will explain how the current situation in Afghanistan is being reflected though the film medium. The program has also been expanded to include films from the wider region.

Nexus Arts presents Healing: Concert for Refugee Week 2022. Drawing on this year’s theme for Refugee Week, Healing will feature performances from musicians including Zuhir Naji and Saleh Al Mansoor, with more to be announced.
