For the first time in history, the United Nations Commission for the Status of Women (CSW) chose 'Financing for Gender Equality' as the theme of its 52nd session in New York, February 2008. Jane Sloane, one of four NGO representatives in the Australian Government Delegation, will reflect on the implications for us in the wake of this landmark gathering.

Jane is Executive Director, International Women's Development Agency. She has worked previously with Coffey International Development, AusAID, World Vision, Austrade and as CEO of the Social Entrepreneurs Network.

Jane is the recipient of an Australian Government Endeavour Professional Award which addressed Pacific women's political participation, a Churchill Fellowship on humanitarian emergency response team models, a Future Summit Leadership Award, a Vincent Fairfax Ethics in Leadership Award and a Queen's Trust Award. Jane holds an Asia Pacific Business Women's Award and a Vietnam Women's Union Award for her humanitarian work. She is currently writing a book -"Citizen Jane, going local in a globalised world" - about a group of Janes engaged in citizen action.
