UniSA's Night of Nights
In the biggest event in its eight-year history, the Alumni Awards Gala Dinner saw 230+ members of the UniSA community gather for this popular black tie event. The recipients were announced on the Bradley Building LED screen as guests arrived to walk the blue carpet. Henrietta Marrie
While she was still a teenager it was foretold that Henrietta Marrie AM would “travel over lots of waters”. While she did not think much of it at the time, this most certainly came to pass when she became the first Aboriginal Australian to be appointed to a United Nations agency. Based in Montreal, Henrietta travelled the world advocating for the interests of 1.2 billion people. more…
Robert Hill-Smith
A member of the fifth generation of the descendants of Samuel Smith, founder of Yalumba, Australia’s oldest family-owned winery, Robert Hill-Smith once had aspirations of becoming a sports photographer. However, after completing his schooling, he worked as a “cellar rat” during vintage at Yalumba and found he enjoyed the process, the people and the science. more...
Elaine Bensted
When a fear of needles and the sight of blood put paid to her aspirations to become a vet, Elaine Bensted put her tertiary education on hold and took a job in a bank while she considered her future. She stayed for 17 years. Then, looking to consolidate and transfer her skills, she completed a MBA at UniSA and moved into the public sector. Today, she works in the not-for-profit arena as Chief Executive of Zoos SA. more...
Arman Abrahimzadeh
While Arman Abrahimzadeh OAM was in his early 20s, his mother passed away in tragic circumstances. Inspired by the support of the community and by joining forces with his two sisters, the Zahra Foundation was established in her honour. With the Foundation operating successfully in South Australia and now Newcastle, Arman continues to draw on his own experience to help others. more...

Eminent Australian scholar and a descendant of the Yiman and Bidjara nations of Queensland, Professor Dr Marcia Langton AO Hon Doc will deliver the 24th Annual Hawke Lecture. Langton has devoted her career to advancing the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. She is an activist who has made significant contributions in the field of Indigenous law and social justice. Presented by The Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre.

A visit from our Hong Kong Chapter
We are most grateful to Chapter President Maggie Leung for arranging a small group tour to Adelaide to coincide with our Alumni Awards Gala Dinner. While our HK alumni were here, they connected with a few of their peers living in SA who joined them on campus tours, a visit to our Advancement Office, a trip to Mawson Lakes (where they tried out the flight simulator) and attended our black tie dinner.
International Brain Tumour Awareness Week
During International Brain Tumour Research Week the NeuroSurgical Research Foundation visited the Centre for Cancer Biology to celebrate their successful collaboration with the James & Diana Ramsay Foundation, Harvey Foundation and Wilkins Family Foundation. Two projects currently in the pipeline are a paediatric brain cancer biobank and new immune-based therapies for glioblastoma, the deadliest form of brain cancer. The paediatric brain cancer biobank is expected to improve treatment outcomes for 120 Australian children diagnosed with the deadly disease each year. A total of $250,000 has been pledged by the NRF, Wilkins Family Foundation and the Harvey Foundation to support this research from 2023-2025. In a separate project, $300,000 provided by the James and Diana Ramsay Foundation (JDRF) will help UniSA researcher Associate Professor Lisa Ebert to develop new immune-based therapies for glioblastoma, the deadliest form of brain cancer. UniSA visits China
Recently Vice Chancellor Professor David Lloyd and Chief Advancement Officer Dr Colin Tayor joined Premier Peter Malinauskas and other senior University delegates on a trade visit to China. During the visit, we met with many of our alumni in Shanghai and Beijing at formal events hosted by StudyAdelaide. We also ran into alumnus Stevie Liu, Assistant Front Office manager at the Fairmont Hotel where we were staying!
