Former SA Government Minister, John Hill, has joined the Council of the University of South Australia.
With more than 20 years’ experience in public life and 11 years as Minister in both the Rann and Weatherill Governments, Mr Hill was instrumental in the development of some of the State’s most significant health projects, including the New Royal Adelaide Hospital and the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute.
Welcoming him to the University Council, UniSA Chancellor Dr Ian Gould AM says the University will have a great deal to benefit from the experience and wisdom of such an accomplished and experienced public policy professional.
“John has been engaged with some of the most important and visionary projects developed in South Australia in the past 20 years and his experience in government and as both Minister for Health and Ageing, and Minister for the Environment and Conservation, will be of great benefit to the University as we focus our research in these important areas,” Dr Gould says.
“We are delighted to welcome him to the University and look forward to his insights and ideas and sharing his enthusiasm for UniSA and its future.”
Mr Hill says he is excited to be joining what he describes as an energetic, creative and innovative institution.
“As a contemporary institution, UniSA really has a sense of youthful energy,” he says.
“It has a relatively lean governance model and challenger spirit, one of positive risk taking and imagining and engaging with what is possible for the University and the State.
“I’m looking forward to being part of that creativity, energy and enterprise and to making my contribution on Council.”
A fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, today Mr Hill serves as Chair of the South Australian Living Artists Board; Chair of the Steering Group of UniSA’s Science, Creativity and Education (SciCEd) Studio, Director of the ACH Group Board, Chair of the SA Institute of Educational Leadership, and Director of Bellberry Ltd Board.
He will attend his first UniSA Council meeting next week.
