The Avalanches - Robbie Chater and Tony Di Blasi will be in conversation with Australian radio legend, Zan Rowe (triple j, Double J) along with conductor Nicholas Buc for a special panel unpacking the band’s past, present and future.
Luminary Artists in Residence Robbie Chater and Tony Di Blasi, left an indelible mark on the music world with their 2000 debut Since I Left You, taking the art of sampling to rarefied heights and storming the airwaves with unexpected earworms like Frontier Psychiatrist. They followed up this success with masterpieces including Wildflower (2016) and We Will Always Love You (2020).
Nicholas Buc is an Award-winning composer, conductor and arranger with over 20 years experience in the music industry. He has composed music for film, television and the concert hall, with some of his work being screened at festivals and theatres around Australia, Asia and the United States.
Nicholas has worked with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Nick Cave and Warren Ellis, Chris Botti, Amanda Palmer, Ben Folds and Australian pop sensation Tina Arena. He has written arrangements for Birds of Tokyo, Missy Higgins, Eskimo Joe and Vera Blue.
As part of another Illuminate Adelaide event, Robbie Chater and Tony Di Blasi will collaborate with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and conductor Nicholas Buc to bring their seminal album, Since I Left You to life.
Unfortunately, Jonathan Zawada is no longer able to participate in this Illuminate Discussion.

The Illuminate Discussion is presented as part of Illuminate Adelaide. llluminate Adelaide explores the union between future technology and creative industries and will completely reimagine the Adelaide CBD.
Homegrown creators, Rachael Azzopardi and Lee Cumberlidge collaborate with the city’s cultural, academic and science institutions and take over city streets, laneways and buildings with an international program of outstanding creativity, art, music and future technologies.
As part of the 2021 Illuminate Adelaide Festival, The Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre co-presented Ghost Stories, showcasing the works that influenced the Avalanches' Prize-winning album We Will Always Love You. The featured artists included Jonathan Zawada and The Experience Machine.
The 2022 Illuminate Discussion will be presented by Dr Andrea Rassell.
