ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

The Professional Certificate in Clinical Education is available to health professionals who supervise students, new graduates, and/or staff within their work roles.

FEES

Single course: $900

Complete certificate: $1,800

50% course discount for health professionals residing in MMM 2-7. The Modified Monash Model (MMM) categorises all Australian locations as urban, regional, or remote. Check to see if your community falls within this range.

Course overview

The purpose of this Professional Certificate is to increase your understanding, skills and expertise in supervising learners in the workplace through applying teaching & learning principles and approaches within the work setting.

The Professional Certificate in Clinical Education consists of two courses.  (1) Being a Health Professional and (2) Supervising & Facilitating Learners.  These courses can be completed in either order or at the same time.  If completing at the same time, please be mindful of the study commitments.

The Professional Certificate in Clinical Education is available to health professionals who supervise students, new graduates, and/or staff within their work roles.

The program is delivered is delivered entirely online.  It is expected you will have sufficient computing skills to engage in online learning, word processing, and browsing the internet.  You will also require reliable access to the internet to access the online learning resources.

Course structure

The Professional Certificate in Clinical Education is comprised of two 4.5 unit courses (a full year load is 36 units).  The Professional Certificate is delivered entirely online.  Each course is delivered over 10 weeks, equating to approximately 10-14hrs of study per week.

Participants who complete the Professional Certificate in Clinical Education are encouraged to check if they are eligible for credit when applying for further studies.

Course 1 - Being a Clinical Educator: Role & Environment

  • Participants are familiarised with the clinical and practical elements of their role as a clinical educator
  • Exploring the clinical educator role
  • Clinical education context
  • The clinical environment as a learning environment

Course 2 - Supervising & Facilitating Learners in the Clinical Settings

  • Facilitate the learning and supervision of learners, according to adult learning principles and approaches
  • Learn how to manage diversity in learners’ abilities and skills
  • Learn supervision strategies 
  • Learn how to manage difficult situations

Assessment

  • Both courses contain written assessment activities.
  • The assessments are based on your professional work situation.  It is expected you will be able to apply these learnings to your role as a supervisor.

Cancellation policy

The University of South Australia reserves the right to cancel events and issue refunds.  In the event that an attendee cannot attend, a substitute is welcome to attend in their place.  No refunds will be given unless 21 days notice is given in writing prior to the date of the planned event. If less than 21 days the fee can be used for the same course at a later stage, or another course of the same value.

Withdrawal policy
