The celebrated Basil Sellers Art Prize supports artists whose work explores Australia’s obsession with sport and sporting culture in the broadest possible sense.

The prize invites contemporary visual artists to take on the theme of sport and engage with the broad range of issues and ideas that this provokes. Sport is central to Australian culture and has been a recurring theme in Australian art, with its ability to speak of everyday life, globalisation, winners and losers, fan culture, architecture, triumphs and scandals.

This exhibition features all of the participating artists from the most recent Basil Sellers Art Prize: Tony Albert, Narelle Autio, Zoë Croggon, Gabrielle de Vietri, Ivan Durrant, Shaun Gladwell, Richard Lewer, William Mackinnon, Rob McHaffie, Noel McKenna, Rob McLeish, Fiona McMonagle, Raquel Ormella, Khaled Sabsabi, Jenny Watson and Gerry Wedd, exhibited across the impressive galleries of the Samstag Museum of Art.

Samstag Museum of Art, University of South Australia, acknowledges the Kaurna people as traditional custodians of the land upon which the Museum stands.
