Maggie Beer moved to the Barossa Valley with her husband in 1970 and, since then, she has turned a pheasant breeding and grape growing enterprise into a high profile career - spanning farming, food production, exporting, food writing and TV presenting.
As part of the 2010 Australia Day Awards, Ms Beer was named Senior Australian of the Year. The following year she became the 2011 South Australian of the Year. In addition to these achievements, she was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2012 for her service to tourism and hospitality and was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of South Australia in March 2016.
