UniSA's 30th birthday

Five years ago, UniSA celebrated our 25th anniversary with parties and events, reminiscences from long term staff and alumni along with birthday messages from well wishers around the world. The year culminated in a gala dinner, where we looked back on our past achievements and celebrated the success of the combination of our predecessor institutions: the South Australian College of Advanced Education and the South Australian Institute of Technology, which had grown into one of the worlds best young universities.

And then we got back to work. As we turn 30, we are able to mark yet again the successes and achievements of our university and its students, researchers, teachers and alumni.

At 30 our programs are well known for their career relevance, and our teaching results in our graduates getting employment. We are the number 1 university in South Australia for graduate employment. In 2018, all of our research was ranked as world class or better; we are also assessed as having almost 80 per cent of our research at the highest level of positive impact in society.

And that is the core of our being. We may only be 30, but our roots stretch back to 1856. In all those years, the University of South Australia has offered education where excellence is assured, and access is our ambition.

We are Australia’s University of Enterprise and have entered our 30th year as a university where all of our resources focused on ensuring that our programs are ranked amongst the best in the world. These programs are informed by our research and by our partners in industry, and are used in new multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary ways to deliver skilled and flexible graduates, creative, problem-solving professionals to an ever-changing global workforce.

Our research is courageous and inventive and addresses the world’s challenges and opportunities. It focuses on areas such as ageing, scarce resources, future industries, and cancer prevention and management. The close, collaborative engagement we enjoy with our many industry, government, collegiate and community partners is reflected in our ranking as the number 1 university in Australia for industry-sourced research income by Times Higher Education in their World University Rankings for 2020.

UniSA also has a strong equity mission. We were the first South Australian university to launch a Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan, which creates greater opportunities for First Nations people in education and employment, and embeds their culture into the University’s teaching and research.

We have a 165-year history of sharing our knowledge with the Australian community. This past 30 years we have embedded that expertise here and spread it across the globe.

That’s what makes us unstoppable.
