Saturday Public Sessions at the Adelaide Planetarium

Saturday sessions will take you on a fascinating journey across our Universe.  Join one of our highly experienced astronomers as they guide you through constellations, the solar system and beyond.  Marvel at the immense scale of the Universe and observe the breathtaking beauty of the night skies projected on the eight-metre domed ceiling.

 

Admissions Prices

 Adult tickets $10.00 and children, students and concession tickets are $8.00. Bookings essential. 

*Please note the Planetarium is not suitable for children under 4.  If you do bring younger siblings, we request that children who become restless and noisy please exit the Planetarium with their guardian as a courtesy to other patrons.

 

Important Notes

  • Please arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the session commencing to be seated comfortably and to avoid disappointment as entry into the Planetarium is NOT permitted once the session has started for safety reasons.
  • All children must be accompanied by an adult.
  • No food or drink is permitted in the Planetarium.
  • Prams are not permitted in the Planetarium.
  • All sessions require a minimum number of bookings to go ahead.

Night Sky + Wildest Weather in the Solar System Full Dome movie

On the first Saturday of every month the Adelaide Planetarium presents a 30-minute planetarium Night Sky presentation, followed by a full dome National Geographic movie, Wildest Weather in the Solar System. Perfect for keeping the kid’s entertained.

Suitable for 8+ years old

The third Saturday of the Month at 1.00pm

Night Sky + Tycho to the Moon Full Dome Movie

On the third Saturday of each month, the Adelaide Planetarium presents a 30-minute Planetarium Night Sky presentation, followed by a full dome animated children’s movie, Tycho to the Moon.  This session is specially tailored to a younger audience.

Suitable for 4-8 years old

The Fourth Saturday of the Month at 1.00pm

 

Night Sky + Cosmic Collisions Full Dome Movie

On the fourth Saturday of each month, the Adelaide Planetarium presents a 30-minute Planetarium Night Sky presentation, followed by a full dome movie, Cosmic Collisions.

Cosmic Collisions presents the spectacular result of gravity pulling together planets, stars, and galaxies.  Witness explosive encounters that ended the Age of the Dinosaurs and gave birth to new stars, but also created conditions essential for life on Earth - the Sun's warmth and ocean waves.  Experience an extraordinary vision of these forces - constructive or catastrophic - that continue to affect our universe.

Suitable for 10+ year olds

The First and Third Saturday of the Month at 2.45pm

1hr Night Sky

Looking for something to do on a Saturday afternoon, why not take a trip to Adelaide’s only Planetarium at UniSA’s Mawson Lakes Campus.

The Adelaide Planetarium projects a replica of the night sky onto a domed ceiling and can be used to show the position of constellations, stars and planets. The audience is taken on an immersive guided tour of the solar system and the universe as our highly experienced presenter takes you on a journey through space. 

Visitors learn about the origins of the stars and constellation names, utilising traditional star lore and mythology.  Particular emphasis is placed on the names of stars and constellations, a description of what you could see if you went outside on a clear night.
