What will happen at the AGM?

At the AGM the officers of the University of South Australia Alumni Singapore chapter and the committee members will be elected, followed by the reunion dinner.

Which positions are vacant?

    a)    President
    b)    Vice-President
    c)    Treasurer
    d)    Secretary
    e)    Committee Members   

 

How long do I serve on the committee?

Each officer of the society shall hold office for a term of one (1) year until the second annual General Meeting after the date of his or her election, but is eligible for re-election. The Treasurer shall not be re-elected to the same post for three (3) consecutive terms of office.

How often does the committee meet?

On average the committee will meet once a month depending on upcoming events and activities.  The committee is obligated to meet at least 3 times per year.

How long do the committee meetings take?

Committee meetings take approximately 2 hours.

What am I expected to do on the committee?

This will depend on the position you have chosen to undertake. 

How many events does the committee organise?

The number of events organised by the committee varies each year and can include dinners, cocktail parties, networking and social events and professional development seminars.

What are the committee objectives?

The objectives of the University of South Australia Alumni Singapore are:

    a)    to promote the interests and profile of the University;
    b)    to promote and foster networking:
           (i)    amongst society Alumni;
           (ii)   between society Alumni and the University;
           (iii)  between society Alumni and the members of the alumni associations of universities of
                  Singapore and of other countries;
    c)    to protect, represent and advance the interests of society Alumni,            
           (i)    amongst society Alumni;
           (ii)   between society Alumni and the University;
           (iii)  between society Alumni and the members of the alumni associations of universities of
                  Singapore and of other countries;
    c)    to protect, represent and advance the interests of society Alumni, and without limiting the
           generality of the foregoing:
            (i)  to assist the society Alumni in their liaison with the University:
            (ii) to provide information to the society Alumni regarding further education, employment
                 and business opportunities;
    d)    to promote and foster the ongoing exchange of knowledge, culture and business development
           opportunities between the University and the society Alumni;
    e)    to undertake other activities on behalf of, or in conjunction with, the University which support
           access to higher education and the dissemination of knowledge; and
    f)     to contribute towards the development of a caring Singaporean society and nation through such
           charitable, community and other initiatives as may be identified by the society from time to
           time.

Nominating for Committee positions

What is the process for nominating for a committee position?

Committee positions can only be filled by University of South Australia Alumni residing (whether on a permanent or temporary basis) in Singapore.

Alumni wishing to nominate for the committee must complete the nomination form.

The nomination must be signed by two other UniSA Alumni (Proposers) residing in Singapore.

Where can I obtain a nomination form?

You can nominate for the committee by completing the nomination form.

How are committee members elected?

As per 8.1 [c] of the Constitution, the committee positions shall be elected at the AGM.

If the number of nominations received is equal to the number of vacancies to be filled, the persons nominated shall be deemed to be elected.

If the number of nominations exceeds the number of vacancies to be filled, a ballot will held at the AGM. Only University of South Australia Alumni in Singapore will be eligible to vote.

When do nominations close?

Nominations close on Sunday 5 November 2023.

If I can’t attend the AGM can I still nominate for a position?

Yes, as a University of South Australia Alumnus, if you nominate for a position you can still be successful in winning that position even if you are not able to attend the AGM.  If you are not able to attend the AGM and have nominated for a position, you will need to email the Secretary, University of South Australia Alumni Singapore Chapter prior to the meeting.

If I can’t attend the AGM can I still vote for someone?

No, all votes must be given personally.
