The University has long been engaged in the education and employment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This commitment was pioneered by our antecedent institutions and continues on in our commitment to be the University of Choice for Aboriginal peoples in South Australia and beyond.
In 2014, we were the first university in South Australia to launch our own Reconciliation Action Plan. This Plan, led by the commitment of the University’s Senior Management Group, offers a real opportunity for us to deepen the respect and relationships between Aboriginal peoples and the University community. It is a framework for cultural change that supports other projects to deliver better opportunities and outcomes for Aboriginal staff and students.

The University’s strategic vision reaffirms our commitment to Aboriginal peoples. We've chosen to actively participate in the Science in Australia Gender Equity (SAGE) Pilot of Athena SWAN to create the momentum and drive change. Our commitment is part of our Inspired Partnered Excellence Strategic Plan for Research and Innovation, and diversity should pervade all we do. Whilst SAGE has primarily focused on the STEMM disciplines, at UniSA we are taking a whole of University approach, reflecting our enterprise mindset and our commitment to developing the diversity of all our people. Some early wins from the project include learning more about the SAGE Pilot on our website and sharing stories of good practice already in action on our online 'Bright Spots' board.
