The William T. Southcott Scholarship has been established as a result of a bequest from Mr William T. Southcott. The scholarship will be offered to outstanding students to undertake a PhD in the field of practical engineering at the University of South Australia.
The scholarship is a prestigious award, and the recipient should have an outstanding academic record as well as leadership potential and personal attributes suitable for the award.
This scholarship is for PhD studies in one of the following fields:
Civil Engineering, Transport Engineering, Water Resources Management, Engineering Management, Autonomous Systems, Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information Engineering, and Systems Engineering.
Must be undertaken on a full-time basis within Australia. Part-time study will only be approved in exceptional circumstances.
The scholarship is open to Australian citizens, permanent residents of Australia or international students.
Applicants must meet the entry criteria for the award of a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of South Australia. In addition, applicants require:
The annual scholarship of $32‚000 per annum tax-free will be awarded to a student for a maximum of 3 years. It is expected that recipients will complete their PhD program in three years; however, the scholarship may be extended beyond the tenure of three years, up to a maximum of 3.5 years, should the recipient experience delays, which are beyond their control. Extensions are not automatically granted – the recipient may apply to the University for an extension.
An additional one off amount of $3,000 will be made available to use towards research costs such as conferences, overseas study, and minor expenses. This amount will be allocated to a personal development fund.
This scholarship will be aligned to a relevant research degree project. Applications to this scholarship need to be made directly to the appropriate research degree project. This scholarship will next be awarded for commencement in 2022, and will be available for application in late 2021.
