In South Australia there are three stages of schooling, Preschool, which provides an approved care and kindergarten program for children aged 4 by 30 June each year; primary school and high school. Primary school ranges from reception to year 7 (5 to 12 years old), and high school ranges from year 8 to year 12 (generally 13 to 18 years old). Schools are either run by the government (public schools), or by private concerns (private schools).
It is compulsory for children to be enrolled in a school by their sixth birthday. All young people under the age of 17 are required to attend full-time schooling, training or work for at least 25 hours per week. Further information regarding early childhood, education and care, student contribution fee, government schools in SA, private schooling and more can be found on the SA Government website.
