UniSA is committed to advancing an Aboriginal governance structure to bring focus and attention to Aboriginal outcomes. This structure will reflect Aboriginal approaches to governance and enable a two-way exchange of knowledge, centred on relationship building.

UniSA is creating space for this relational model to work in parallel with the formal governance structure, in order to forge new ways of understanding and enacting good governance. 

Advisory Boards

The following committees provide leadership and oversight across the University of Aboriginal business relating to education, research, employment and engagement.

Yaitya Warra-itya

Yaitya Warra-itya provides leadership and strategic advice to the University community, the Pro Vice Chancellor: Aboriginal Leadership and Strategy, Enterprise Leadership Team, Academic Board and Council on Aboriginal policy matters and their implementation relevant to the University.

Yaitya Warra-itya meets quaterly and is chaired by the Pro Vice Chancellor: Aboriginal Leadership and Strategy.

Indigenous Student Success Program Governance Group

The Indigenous Student Success Program Governance Group (ISSP Governance Group), is the University of South Australia’s Aboriginal Governance Mechanism for the management of the Indigenous Student Success Program (ISSP). This program provides funding to support Aboriginal students take on the demands of university and succeed.

The Governance Group meets quaterly and is chaired by the Pro Vice Chancellor: Aboriginal Leadership and Strategy.

Purkarninthi in Residence

Purkarninthi in Residence is a deliverable of the Stretch Reconcilation Plan (2018 to 2021), designed to support Aboriginal learning across the University and support to students.

The Purkarninthi consists of seven Elders who have kinship ties across South Australia, with two members holding honorary degrees form UniSA. All are well known and widely respected for their broad range of community and cultural knowledge and leadership.
