Australian Council for Educational Leaders (ACEL) gold medal

Emeritus Professor Alan Reid has been named this year's gold medal winner by
the Australian Council for Educational Leaders (ACEL).
The award, rarely conferred to scholars working in roles other than those in the most senior of academic or government department ranks, acknowledges Prof Reid's national and international contribution to public education policy and research and his deep commitment to social justice through education.
Science Excellence Awards
A UniSA Professor has taken a top honour at this year's South Australian Science Excellence Awards. Professor Stephen Grano from the Ian Wark Research Institute received the award for Excellence in Research Commercialisation for his success in forging a range of industry partnerships on a national and global scale.
Celebrated for his potential to make a major contribution to reducing energy consumption and improving productivity in mineral processing operations, Prof Grano joined six other leading scientists and educators in receiving an award.
Young Tall Poppy Science Awards
Two
dynamic early career researchers at the University of South Australia have taken
out prestigious Young Tall Poppy Science Awards
Nutrition scientist Dr Karen Murphy and population health scientist Dr Matt Haren were recognised for their research achievements and their passion for communicating their work at the 7th Tall Poppy Awards.
Vice Chancellor Professor Peter Høj said, 'I am thrilled with the calibre of our young researchers at UniSA and I am delighted our researchers have again been acknowledged in these wonderful awards.'

Sciences and Engineering Clunies Ross Award
UniSA's first Laureate Professor and former South Australian of the Year,
John
Ralston, AO, may now be one of Australia's most honoured physical
chemists. On 20 may 2009 he was awarded the
Australian Academy of Technological
Sciences and Engineering Clunies Ross Award, one of the most prestigious
awards in the country, acknowledging not only pure research but its capacity
to make a difference in the world.
The award recognises his long career in particle physics and colloid science as they apply to one of Australia's most important industries, mining and minerals production, his research leadership and his important role in forging a fruitful nexus between research and industry.

VET Researcher of the Year
UniSA's Professor
Roger Harris has been named the inaugural VET Researcher
of the Year by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research.
The award was established to recognise and promote the value of an
evidence-based approach to improving policy and practice in the vocational
education sector and was presented at the Australian Training Awards
ceremony in Darwin at the end of November.
With a 20 year career in the field Prof Harris is said to have done seminal
research in competency-based training, recognised not only here in Australia
but internationally.
