In the wake of global issues related to finance and economics, migration, trade and climate change, Europe Now is an online video series developed by the UniSA Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence to investigate the challenges facing Europe today.

Brexit, large scale migrations, climate change and other global challenges have placed tremendous pressure on the European Union. While this pressure has emboldened calls for EU disintegration, it has also demonstrated the fundamental strength of the EU, and the difficulties nations face when ‘going it alone’ in tackling the global challenges of the 21st Century. In Episode 12 of Europe Now, Executive Director of the Hawke EU Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence, Professor Anthony Elliott, interviews Finnish Ambassador to Australia, H.E. Mr Lars Backström, about how Brexit and modern global problems provide the stimulus for a closer and stronger Europe. It is a critical moment for the relationship between France and Australia. The $50 billion Australian submarine contract, awarded to French firm, Naval Group, is forming the basis for increased economic and cultural exchange and engagement between these two countries.
