The Diploma in Business is a two year program providing a pathway into accounting, business, economics, finance, human resource management, logistics and supply chain management, management, marketing, property, sport and recreation, and tourism and event management degrees at the University of South Australia.
In this program we will teach you how to study successfully at university. You will learn how the university works, how to write academic assignments, how to reference, how to manage your time and important base knowledge in business.
Upon successful completion you will be guaranteed entry into a degree at UniSA. If you continue with one of the linked degrees you will also be granted a year of credit (allowing you to progress directly to second year).
Who is it for?
The program is designed primarily for people who do not have the qualifications required to get directly into a business or accounting undergraduate program at UniSA.
Entry methods include:
- A competitive ATAR of at least 50 (including any bonus points)
- A competitive STAT score - normally around 139
- Completion of a recognised Certificate III or Certificate IV
Applicants who have one or more of the above qualifications may be eligible to enter the program.
To be eligible applicants must also be Australian residents and must not have completed a Diploma or higher qualification.
Students who have completed the Foundation Studies program may apply for entry and will be assessed on their grade point average.
What will I study?
During the first year of the diploma, you will learn the skills necessary to study successfully at a tertiary level, such as how the university works, how to write academic assignments, how to reference and how to manage your time. You will also gain discipline-specific skills and important base knowledge with support from UniSA College staff. You will also be able to study basic courses in your area of interest.
In the second year, you will start the first year of your linked degree. You will sit in the lectures and tutorials with all other first year degree students, but you will be able to come back to the UniSA College for additional support.
For more information about the courses you will study, visit the program information page.
What does it take?
You will have the choice of full-time or part-time study. Full-time study is equivalent to a full-time job, so you will need approximately 40 hours per week to successfully complete your study. Some courses are also available externally so you can participate wherever you can access the Internet, allowing you to study outside of traditional work/study hours and around your other commitments.
In general, your study schedule will be divided into contact hours (the time you spend in lectures and tutorials) and independent study, including research and assignments. Contact hours depend on the program you choose. Independent study hours will vary according to the individual, but as with other commitments, the more you put in, the more you’ll get back.
Where does it lead?
Upon successful completion of your diploma you are guaranteed entry into the second year of one of the following degrees at UniSA:
HECS-HELP assists eligible students in paying their student contribution for course(s) of study in which they are enrolled as a Commonwealth supported student. Find out more.
