Your VET qualifications, previous higher education qualifications or work/life experience might do more than just get you into UniSA. You may also be eligible to receive study credit, typically reducing the overall time it takes to finish your degree.

What is credit transfer?

Credit transfer (study credit) is the formal recognition of your prior learning and previous work/life experience. It can be granted for specific courses (subjects) or for a block of courses where your previous qualification or experience has equivalent learning.

Prior learning

So, what counts as prior learning? It can be from one of the following providers:

  • Recognised higher education provider;
  • TAFE or other recognised VET provider;
  • Professional body, enterprise, private educational institution, or other similar body; or
  • Work experience.

How much credit will I receive?

To see our pre-approved credit transfer options, visit our online credit assessor. Select your year of study, institution and qualification to see how much credit you could receive. Credit transfer is available for many UniSA degrees, so you may still be eligible for credit transfer if your previous institution or award details are not listed in the credit assessor.

Credit transfer for unrelated qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis. We also have an arrangement with the Australian Defence Force (ADF) to grant credit towards most UniSA undergraduate degrees for a completed certificate IV, diploma or advanced diploma from the ADF.

How do I apply for credit transfer?

The first step is to wait until you’re offered a place at UniSA. Once you’ve been accepted into your preferred degree, then you can formally apply for a credit transfer. Then, visit your local Campus Central (there’s a team based on every UniSA campus) with your online credit assessor results to submit your formal application. If you’re award was not listed on the online credit assessor, you can still visit Campus Central and be assessed on an individual basis.
