Quality Use of Medicines and Pharmacy Research Centre

Research at the QUMPRC is aimed at improving the way we all use medicines
The QUMPRC has earned a national and international reputation for its work in quality use of medicines, medicine safety, pharmacoepidemiology and medicines policy.
Among our success stories is the Veterans’ Medicines Advice and Therapeutics Education Services (Veterans’ MATES) Program which provides interventions to improve use of medicines for veterans. Since 2004 it has targeted general practitioners, pharmacists, residential aged-care facilities and veterans in Australia. We use large scale databases to look at improving current patterns of care to achieve the best possible outcomes for Australians. We also work with practitioners to improve outcomes in practice.
We run the Medicine and Device Surveillance Centre of Research Excellence (CRE), working to improve the detection of adverse events, quantifying the risk of harm from medicines and devices, identifying people most at risk of harm and monitoring safety in practice of medicine and device use.
We collaborate worldwide with links to Korea, Canada, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, the US, the UK, the Netherlands, India and Denmark.
The QUMPRC has over 20 staff with expertise ranging from pharmacy and medicines safety to statistics, mathematical modelling, database management, health informatics, indigenous medicines, chemistry and health promotion.
