Critical Chain Project Management
In this one-day experiential workshop, you will gain a deeper understanding of project management and be immersed in activities that build your competence and confidence to successfully address the challenges faced in managing projects. Participants are introduced to fresh approach to effectively managing uncertainty and scarce resources within a dynamic multi-project environment. This approach is an extrapolation from the Theory of Constraint’s Buffer Management methodology and is known by the term the ‘Critical Chain’, an innovative and novel approach applied to the realm of safety buffers on a projects critical path. In contrast to traditional thinking, constraint management highlights that individual task safety buffers don't assist in meeting schedules, they in fact hinder the meeting of schedules on time. The answer rests in the implementation of a project buffer rather than task buffers, which provide a cost-effective solution that focus on the project's true ‘critical path’, to improve project outcomes.

Coure Prerequisite:
A prerequisite for this program is that the participants have completed UniSA’s Process Constraint Management course or have experience in Project Management and an understanding in the fundamentals of the Theory of Constraints (TOC).
Those participants who have not completed the UniSA Process Constraint Management course but satisfy other eligibility criteria will be provided with a Study guide on the fundamentals of TOC as well as access to viewing the movie “The Goal” upon enrolment in Critical Chain Project Management.

What you can expect
In this one day program, there is an emphasis on the active involvement of the students. Exercises are extensively used and group learning through open discussions is encouraged. Reliable case studies that have shown great success using the Critical Chain’s methodology are discussed throughout the workshop.
Group learning through open discussions is encouraged, and you will learn from case studies of organisations who have effectively used the Theory of Constraints methodology. A good working knowledge of the Theory of Constraints would be beneficial for attendees of this one-day course.

- The key to project success is in identifying and managing the true critical path of a project, i.e. the 'Critical Chain'.
- The value and innovative uses of Safety Buffers on a project’s true critical path
- The advantages of Project Buffers in contrast to Task Buffers
- Synchronizing shared resources in a dynamic multi project environment using the Drum-Buffer-Rope solution
- Managing project bottlenecks.

Industrial Engineer (MBA, MSc, PMP).
Course Facilitator
Lewis is a recognised international expert in Constraint Innovation. Australian-born, Israel resident, Lewis is an industrial engineer (MBA, MSc, PMP), with over 25 years of experience in applying constraint management and innovation, based on the Theory of Constraints (TOC) within the Israeli military’s maintenance; engineering, and logistics systems, within government and private industry. Lewis has been leading for many years the training of Project Managers for the Hi-tech and defence industry in Israel, including the major contractors, as well as Project Officers from the Israeli Defence Forces and the Israeli Ministry of Defence
Over the last 18 years, Lewis has extensive experience in facilitating workshops to many leading Australian and global organisations including Rio Tinto, Newcrest Mining, Iluka Resources, Schweppes / Asahi, Arnott’s, The Australian Submarine Corporation, The Adelaide Health Service, AKD Sawmills, the Spotlight Retail Chain, Dairy Farmers, Coopers Brewery, Government agencies at a Federal, State, and Local level. In addition to extensive experience in the Israeli Air Force and in senior management positions in the hi-tech market, Lewis brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in operations and project management.
Cancellation Policy
The University of South Australia reserves the right to cancel events and issue refunds. In the event that an attendee cannot attend, a substitute is welcome to attend in their place. No refunds will be given unless 21 days notice is given in writing prior to the date of the planned event. If less than 21 days the fee can be used for the same course at a later stage, or another course of the same value.
