Engagement with Contemporary Art offers students the opportunity to discover diverse ways of seeing, thinking, making and being.  Samstag education resources are designed to inspire student curiosity about the world around them, encourage individual creativity and develop their critical thinking skills and arts literacy.

Samstag produces education resources to accompany select exhibitions throughout the year.

Each resource is fully aligned to the Australian Curriculum and provides a comprehensive teaching and learning program designed to support educators and students at each stage of the viewing process:

BEFORE THE GALLERY: a range of in-class brainstorming and context building activities designed to prepare students to meaningfully engage with the artworks during their gallery visit.

AT THE GALLERY: on-site activities, led by the Samstag team, that allow students to benefit from the extensive expertise of our curatorial staff and gain valuable insights into the exhibition.

The At the Gallery experience is free to all school groups and students are not required to bring any materials or equipment with them.

This experience is scheduled for one hour.  Bookings essential.

AFTER THE GALLERY: a selection of creative and theory-focussed projects that provide the opportunity for students to respond to what they have seen and learned.

These resources are designed to provide educators with choice and the flexibility to adapt activities to suit student needs and available resources.  While our resources focus on secondary Visual Art education, the activities have been created to allow for adaption by teachers of younger year levels and other subject areas (such as HASS, History and Civics and Citizenship) for use with their students.

We are also happy to make adjustments to the At the Gallery experience to accommodate the participation of younger student groups and classes from other subject areas.  Please contact Sarah Buckley to discuss these options further.

School group tours are available for all exhibitions.

Bookings are essential to ensure a staff member is available at the time of your visit.

For more information or to make a booking contact Sarah Buckley sarah.buckley@unisa.edu.au

Open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am—5pm.
Closed during exhibition changeovers and public holidays, including the Easter long weekend. School visits can be scheduled outside normal opening hours where necessary.

Resource downloads, gallery admission, school tours and participation in the At the Gallery experience are all free.
